Oman signs $26 million to develop Hydroponic Greenhouse Project
Oman : 12-Apr-2012
Al-Hosn Investment, a partnership between Qatar Holding and Oman's Ministry of Finance, has signed a $26 million deal with two Spanish agricultural companies to develop a 12-hectare hydroponic greenhouse project in Barka. It is the first such development in this region, and will have a production capacity of 3 million tonnes. It will also use up to 60% less water than conventional farming technique counterparts. The conditions will also be soil-less, an area of expertise for the two Spanish companies MSC Fabricas Agricolas of Seville and Zeta Amaltea of Zaragoza. Production will principally be for export, although also partially retained for food-security purposes.
