Qatar awards $272 million contract for first phase construction of Doha Expressway Project

Qatar's Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has awarded a $272 million contract to Germany's Bilfinger Berger Company and local Al Hamed Development & Construction for carrying out the first phase construction of Doha Expressway project. Known as February 22 Intersection and Emir Street, the scheme includes development of main highway with service roads, infrastructure and landscaping. The project will also involve construction of four major interchanges and a subway. The three lanes in each direction will be developed into four lanes and all major roundabouts will be converted into signals. Major intersections will be expanded with underpasses and bridges. Work will commence by the end of January 2006 and is scheduled to be completed in two years.
