Emirates National Grid set for completion by 2006
UAE : 22-Aug-2004

The proposed Emirates National Grid (ENG), which is expected to interconnect various power grids with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is scheduled to be completed by mid-2006. Presently, Abu Dhabi Government is undertaking various feasibility studies to assess and provide power supply for growing industrial demand. The rise in industrial demand for power is foreseen from various forthcoming industrial projects in Fujairah and Northern Emirates. The current demand for power is assessed at 1,100 MW, which is expected to increase. Meanwhile, Union Water & Electricity Company (UWEC), part of the UAE Offset Group, has announced the completion of a new transmission line, which is an early part of the 68-kilometre power transmission line, set up from Fujairah to Al Dhaid. This 400kV transmission line connect Fujairah Water & Power Plant (FWPP) and the Federal Electricity & Water Authority (FEWA) network at Al Dhaid. With the completion of this project, the FEWA network can utilise the entire power generation capacity of FWPP to meet the growing power demand in Northern Emirates.
